Sox "Drop" Ball 7-6 vs. Pirates

This was another tough one. The Sox rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to pull to a 6-6 tie and eventually lose 7-6. We managed just eight (8) hits against Eric, one of the better pitchers in the league.

Highlights

Pitching - Jim gave us another strong outing, working 4 2/3 innings and giving up just two earned runs. He fought out of major jams in the first two innings caused mostly by errors. It is a tribute to him that the score was only 5-0, given the early defensive play. Bob pitched a very strong 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run.

Hitting - Gus was on base 3/4, giving us solid leadoff play. Miguel was also solid, going 2/3 with a walk.

Lowlights

Defense - This was the first really bad defensive game for us this season, in my opinion. We probably had 6 or 7 errors. This probably cost us the game, although in fairness to Eric and the Pirates, most of our runs were unearned as well. Many of the errors were attributable to balls lost in the sun. We just need to shake this one off and come back playing the strong defense we have all season.

Looking Forward

We play the Lugnuts at 1 pm at El Cajon High School. Steve and Joey will be out, but as far as I know, everyone else will be there. Let me know if not.
