Recap 2/27/04: 7-6 Loss vs. Pirates

It wasn't the result we wanted obviously, but nice job today anyways. We battled a lot of adversity, coming together for the first time without a real practice, and a little shorthanded, with only 9 players available for the game.

I can't wait to get Daniel and Mo (and Bob) out and we may look at another one or two players who might be able to help us replace some of our late losses. We have a solid club with good team chemistry... we will win our share of ballgames before the season is through.

Highlights:

Pitching - Robert gave us a solid nine innings, striking out 5 and allowing only 2 walks.

Hitting - We had 11 hits, and 5 strikeouts. Individual highlights:
Mike Clay - 2/5, double.
Dennis - 2/5.
Doug - 2/4, on base 3/5.
Mike Gross - 2/4, including a clutch 2-out single to tie the game.
Dan - on base 2/4 (hit, BB).
Defense - Overall, not too bad for a first game... we still need to work out a few kinks in the infield, overall a very solid game in the outfield. Kevin had a number of nice catches, including a diving grab to end the 8th. Doug also made some nice plays in center and would have had us out of the 9th with his throw to third, if the ball hadn't nicked the runner in the cleats.

Upcoming:

I'll let you know when the schedule gets posted for next week. If you haven't paid yet, dues for the season are $170. Please get me cash or a check next week unless we've already discussed alternate arrangements.
