Recap 3/13/05: 6-4 loss vs. The Dudes.
Another tough loss 6-4 vs. The Dudes.
Highlights:
Pitching - another excellent performance by Huffy, allowing just 4 earned runs in 9-innings against a good hitting ballclub. Huffy gave up just 8 hits and 5 BBs, striking out 6.
Hitting - We managed only 6 hits and tied the team record for strikeouts with 15. Every Black Sox player (who batted) struck out at least once, another record. We left too many men on base and missed one chance with runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. You have to give their pitchers some credit too - that was some of the best pitching I've seen at this level.
Individual highlights:
Doug - reached base 2/5.
Daniel H. - 2/5 hitting.
Mo - 2/4 batting, on base 3/5. Monster double to clear the bases with 2 outs in 9th to make it a ballgame.
Kevin - on base 3/5.
Dan - on base 3/5.
Defense - I thought we were improved defensively from week 1. The couple of mistakes we did make in the infield were caused/compounded by the speed of the opposition... they had some guys who could fly. The outfield was solid again.
General - it was great to have Mo back, his doube in the last at-bat was a nice reminder of what he brings to the table for us. Daniel played a good game, subbing for Dennis at shortstop, and had several strong at bats. I personally am impressed with the improvement defensively Kevin has made in left field since I played with the Orioles a couple of seasons ago.
Even at 0-2, I am a believer in this ballclub, and like what I see so far. We will get our share of the breaks as the season continues...
Upcoming:
Game is at 1:30 at Mar Vista vs. the SD A's. I am going to be out of town this weekend. Mike Gross (and Bob if he can make it) will run the show. Our opponent, the SD A's, are off to a good start, 2-0, and should be another good challenge. Aside from myself, everyone is going to be there, meaning we'll have 10 players - I am trying to get us an 11th player. Mo is on-call, but probable (90%). If anyone else will have an issue being there let me know ASAP so I can arrange for a sub.
